MID & Prevention

Click the button to migrate to DENFLIX where we can build a learning platform. Below are some resources I made a while back.

I built this website during Covid, with help from Kirk — a true believer in MID and prevention who’s taught foundation dentists for years.

He was asked to deliver the session online, but wasn’t keen, and somehow I became the one giving the talk. The full three-hour video lives on this site.

It definitely needs updating, but it’s a good base to build on. If you fancy helping me modernise it (clinically and technically), please get in touch. Sadly the teeth4life dental APP is no longer available, but with your support I can make our new DHS App.

If you scroll down, and read the text it explains the three main advances since I made the site which are at the top of the landing page.

Updated version from 2026

This site was created during Covid and is due for an update. With feedback, I’ll improve it over time — focusing on three areas that can transform prevention-first dentistry:
* Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF): I only obtained SDF in the week I resigned, but I now see its huge value for prevention and palliative care.
* 3D Scanning + 3D Printing: I used MID and milled CAD/CAM blocks for years, but never had a 3D printer — the possibilities now are bigger than milling alone.
* Teledentistry: A single patient photo of an ulcer (mistakenly feared to be cancer) showed me how much time, anxiety, and delay simple remote guidance could prevent.

To learn more for free and explore digital dentistry, meet Wally Renne-The MOD Institute:

I’m currently working with a small number of care homes, trialling some products imported from the USA as well as a portable dental scanner.

The most vulnerable people in our society are often the poorest served by current NHS dental provision. My own NHS domiciliary visits were stopped in 2006 — and since then the gap in access for care home residents has only widened.

The good news is that much more can be done, safely and affordably, by the wider dental team. With the right training and clear guidance, dental nurses and other DCPs can support care homes with palliative care, prevention, and both real-time (synchronous) and store-and-forward (asynchronous) assessments. Digital scanning also opens practical, income-generating services — such as scanning dentures in advance so they can be replaced quickly if lost — and much more besides.

We also need clearer, more modern boundaries from the regulator. Trained dental nurses can already contribute to prevention (for example, supporting varnish programmes in schools), but progress is slowed by ambiguity and an overly restrictive interpretation of scope.

If you agree that we can do better for residents, families and carers, please sign the petition — for all our wellbeing.

One final point: some of the content below was drafted with AI support. AI can help organise information, but it will never replace the reassurance, judgement and compassion that comes from face-to-face care — especially for the most vulnerable.

I built Denflix during Covid as a simple idea: if we want better care, we have to share what works.

The front page is still relevant today. Not because it’s flashy — but because the principle is solid: shared knowledge raises standards.

We can’t keep doing the same thing and expect different results. If we want to improve wellbeing — for patients, carers, and professionals — we need a practical hub that helps people learn fast, apply ideas, and support each other.

That’s what Denflix is becoming:

  • a place to store health-promotion videos for the public

  • a place for you to host and share videos about the services you offer

  • a collaborative library we can improve iteratively, using real feedback

The video below shows how you can create your own videos using my templates.
If you subscribe to the website, you’ll be able to publish, promote and share your resources — and help build something that genuinely improves all our wellbeing.
